A Korean jar dating from 200 years ago was sold $ 3.7 million cost included by Bonhams and Butterfields on December 9 in San Francisco. It had been estimated 200 K $.

For sale on Dec. 18 at Sotheby's in New York: an armchair made circa 1908 by Greene and Greene ($ 300 K, lot 125). (UNSOLD)

ILLUSTRATORS

A separate catalog of Sotheby's is devoted to the character of Winnie the Pooh in drawings by Ernest H. Shepard. This L08414 sale is in London on December 17. Lots 10 and 19 are each estimated £ 40 K. (SOLD 115 and 100 K£ including fees)

HISTORIC MEMORIES

The draft of the speech of Martin Luther King was withdrawn from the sale of Sotheby's New York in Dec. 11.

CARPET

In the sale of Orientalist art by Gros - Delettrez in Paris on December 15, there is a tapestry of Brussels from the eighteenth century, 3 x 5.5m, on the theme of the Caravan to Mecca (300 K €, lot 43) .

STAMPS

In 2009 Robert A. Siegel will auction through three sales a very important collection of stamps of the United States. I noticed a block of four unused 5c brick red (27) of 1857, and two blocks of four with the drawing reversed compared with the frame, one is 2c with a train, the other is 1c with a steam boat. The first of these sales, covering the period 1847-1869, will take place in late January. The auction house is based in New York.
