1307 Preview


On November 12, Sotheby's London sells a battle scene of the Carlist wars by Oller (340 K£). (UNSOLD)

In a style that is reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland, here are four drawings in ink and watercolor by Beatrix Potter showing rabbits in Christmas scenes. It's very English, and it is in London at Sotheby's on July 17 (lots 288, 290 and 291 to 40 K£ each, lot 289 to 20 K£). (SOLD 120, 290, 42 and 22.5 K£ including fees).

On August 5 in San Francisco and Los Angeles, Bonhams & Butterfields is organizing a sale of art of California and of the American West. There are two landscapes by Maynard Dixon (300 K $, lot 368 (SOLD 300 K$ before fees) ; 180 K $ , lot 409 (SOLD 275 K$ before fees)).

This seems cheap: on July 25 in Tokyo, Mallet Auction sells two oils on canvas by Shiraga of the same size, one in height and the other in width, 130 x 162 cm, each 10 million yen (lots 49 and 61). (SOLD 31 and 24 M yen before fees).


Wild neck of Orlinski, at Massol in Deauville on August 16, is a crocodile in polyresine of 1.10 m long with a necklace made of aluminium (8 K €, lot 292).


A necklace of diamonds for sale by Tajan on July 29 in Monte Carlo includes a yellow diamond of 10 carats cut in heart shape (330 K €, lot 164). (UNSOLD). It may be compared with another yellow diamond weighing 13.5 carats carved out in cushion shape and mounted on a ring (Lot 580). (UNSOLD).


A poster in Italian on chocolate by Cappiello (272x195 cm) is estimated at 30 K$ by Swann Auction Galleries in New York on August 6 (Lot 312). (UNSOLD).


At number 29 from the sale of Webb's on July 23 in New Zealand, here is for 25 K$ a cibachrome 155x125 cm by Boyd Webb representing a jellyfish (Incubus, 1989). The portrait of a bird which I mentioned earlier is at number 14 (c-type, 98x117 cm, 8 K $).


A vase of 1937 by Edvin Ohrström is at number 277 from the sale of Stockholms Auktionsverk on August 3 (200 K SEK). (SOLD 190 K SEK before fees).
